Building Community Through Dance
Janice Rosario’s choreographic work seeks to unveil the human psyche, illuminating the emotional undercurrents and shared truths that bind us together in our universal humanity. Her work exists within the realm of contemporary dance, shaped by the clarity and precision of ballet, the architectural and expressive foundations of the Graham tradition, and the generative possibilities of improvisation. Through ongoing experimentation and conceptual, technical, and collaborative inquiry, Rosario creates dances that live simultaneously in the abstract and the deeply personal.

In the studio, Rosario cultivates environments where rigor, curiosity, and vulnerability coexist. She invites dancers to engage with sensation, memory, and instinct, allowing movement to emerge organically through exploration and dialogue. Her rehearsals prioritize agency and collaborative intelligence, encouraging dancers to bring their own lived experiences into the work. The structure and vocabulary of each piece evolve from this shared process, giving the choreography both emotional depth and a sense of lived authenticity.
Her pieces function as mirrors—spaces where performers and audiences can recognize themselves, confront complexity, and witness connection unfold in real time. Rosario aims to cultivate spaces that foster empathy, bridge divides, and remind us that we are more alike than we are different.
